[0036] In FIG. 1 is a known heater 1 for heating the air which is fed into the passenger compartment of the motor vehicle here. The direction of flow of air is marked by arrow A in FIG. 1 . The air flow can flow downstream or upstream of the vehicle in any way. The illustrated heater 1 is a vertically arranged, so-called UT heater. At its upper end 2 and its lower end 3 , the heater 1 has a coolant tank 4 , 5 each, which at the same time serve as collectors for the coolant flowing through. The upper coolant tank 4 is divided by a schematically shown intermediate wall 6 into a front region 7 situated at the front and adjacent to the inflow section 9 and a rear region 8 located at the rear with the return section 10 .
