Problems solved by technology

[0005] The problem is that there is no description of the parameter type, except if the parameter is normalized, then the type is described, but that may not be available from the target model itself
This means that non-standardized object models cannot be discovered and dynamically uploaded from the client side to the server side
This is a problem in multi-service provider managed business models when striving to acquire service management via management agreements

[0036] figure 1 The system shown comprises a transport network 20 comprising an access network 22 with access nodes 21 and comprising a core network 24 with edge nodes 23 coupled to server means 30 according to the invention. Core network 24 is coupled to service provider 40 or service configuration manager 40 . Access node 21 is coupled to edge node 23 and to gateway 12 of residential network 10 . The residential network 10 further includes a service terminal 11 and a manager 13 coupled to each other and to a gateway 12 via a local network. The service terminal 11 , gateway 12 and manager 13 are client devices 11 , 12 and 13 . The server device 30 is linked to the gateway 12 and the service terminal 11 via southbound interfaces 31 , 32 and to a service provider 40 or service configuration manager 40 via a northbound interface 33 . Interfaces 31, 32 and 33 are remote management interfaces. Not shown local management interfaces such as UPnP discovery and (auto)configuration...

Abstract

Methods for managing communications between server devices (30) and customer devices (11,12,13) comprise steps of reading / writing parameters at one of the devices (11,12,13,30) for configuring / monitoring the other one of the devices (11,12,13,30) and, to allow arbitrary parameters to be introduced, comprise steps of, for the parameters, creating attributes comprising extended markup language schemes for defining the parameters. Said one of the devices (30) is linked to a northbound interface (33) and a southbound interface (31,32), the creating step being performed via the southbound interface (31,32). Said one of the devices (30) is linked via the northbound interface (33) to for example a service provider (40) and via the southbound interface (31,32) to for example the customer device (11,12,13). The extended markup language schemes may define types, descriptions of the types, descriptions and / or metadata of the for example non-standardized parameters with names and values. The server device (30) may be an auto configuration server, the customer device (11,12,13) may be a customer premises equipment, the method may be a TR069 protocol.

Description

technical field [0001] The invention relates to a method for managing communications between a server device and a client device, the method comprising the steps of reading and / or writing, on one of said devices, a parameter. [0002] Examples of such methods are protocols, examples of such server devices are auto-configuration servers, and examples of such client devices are client devices. Background technique [0003] US 2006 / 0120305 A1 discloses a remote management method and an automatic configuration server. US2006 / 0075118 A1 discloses a system for exchanging messages between a client device and a server. [0004] The prior art methods are common general knowledge. A management protocol, for example, manages communications between a client device (CPE) and a server device (auto-configuration server or ACS). The management protocol defines such mechanisms, eg including secure auto-configuration of CPEs, and can further incorporate management functions of other CPEs ...
