Embodiment Construction

[0022] Referring to Figures 1-4, there is shown a complete toothbrush 10 of this invention including a gripping handle 11 integrally formed with a toothbrush head 12 of plastic, usually polypropylene. The toothbrush head 12 has a surface 13 on which conventional bristles (not shown) are provided. The handle 11 is elongate along the handle-head longitudinal direction L-L and has terminal ends 23, 24 longitudinally spaced further and closer to the head 12, respectively. Between the handle 11 and the head 12 there is a neck 14 whose portion adjacent to the handle 11 forms an "S"-shaped bend.

[0023] The handle comprises a number, ie 11 (can be more or less) of cavities 15, each cavity 15 having an opening 16 on the handle 11 surface. As can be seen in FIG. 4, the cross-section of the handle 11 transverse to the longitudinal direction L-L is substantially rectangular, and all cavities 15 have their openings 16 on the same surface 25 which is the side surface of the handle 11, as...

Abstract

A toothbrush grip handle (11) made of a plastics material including one or plural voids (15) having an opening (16) at the surface of the grip handle (11) and at least partly closed by a film material (20).

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to toothbrushes. Background technique [0002] Toothbrushes are well known devices generally comprising an elongated handle with a head at one end carrying oral cavity cleaning elements, such as bristles, to clean various surfaces of the oral cavity such as the teeth and gums. Usually the handle and head of the toothbrush are made of plastic by injection molding. A growing problem is the need to reduce production costs, and one solution to this problem is to reduce the cost of materials. Also, if the toothbrush handle is relatively large, additional time is required for cooling the handle during injection molding. A solution to this problem is proposed in US application US-A-2003 / 0208870, which discloses a toothbrush whose handle includes one or more cavities to reduce the amount of plastic it requires and reduce cooling time. The cavities indicated in US-A-2003 / 0208870 are openings on the surface of the toothbrush. ...
