[0066] According to a third aspect of the present invention, there is provided a method for preparing the composition in the second aspect described above, the method comprising the following steps:

[0067] - combining the active component with the remaining non-propellant components, if present, to form a homogeneous mixture;

[0068] transfer of the resulting compound into an aerosol container;

[0069] seal the container with a valve; and

[0070] - Pressurizing the container and mixture with the propellant (a).

[0071] According to a fourth aspect of the present invention there is provided an aerosol container containing a composition as hereinbefore described.

[0072] Metal aerosol cans are usually made of tin-plated steel or aluminum. Tin-plated iron aerosol cans are usually constructed of three parts - a body, a bottom and a top with a valve opening. There are also some two-piece cans currently available. Aluminum cans are usually made from a single piece of alu...

Embodiment 1

[0080] A standard 0.78 fl oz aluminum aerosol container with a total volume of 33 ml was added at 8.5% by weight of a fragrance selected from the previously described group. The container was then sealed with a standard continuous valve and charged with 91.5% by weight butane 70 propellant.

Embodiment 2

[0082] A standard 0.78 fl oz aluminum aerosol container with a total volume of 33 ml was added at 5.2% by weight of a fragrance selected from the previously described group. The container was then sealed with a standard continuous valve and charged with 94.8% by weight HFC-152a propellant.

[0083] In each case, the resulting container was then filled into a solenoid operated metered dose aerosol spray device such as in the applicant's co-pending patent applications GB 0427646.5, GB 0503098.6, GB 0503042.4, GB 0503095.2 , GB 0521064.6, GB 0521061.2, GB 0521063.8 and GB 0521071.1 are hereby incorporated by reference.

[0084] The resulting device has excellent performance throughout the lifetime of the container, as evidenced by the absence of "dripping".

Abstract

A method of dispensing periodic metered doses of a single phase aerosol composition wherein: the aerosol composition comprises a propellant and at least one active component selected from the group comprising fragrances, perfumes, air fresheners, deodorants and sanitisers; the metered dose spray rate is between 0.1 and 2 g/s of aerosol composition; and the mean particle size of each dose of the aerosol composition is between 1 [mu]m and 40[mu]m.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention describes a method of dispensing a single phase aerosol composition by use of a metered dose device, a composition for use in said device, said composition and a method of manufacture of a device containing said composition. Background technique [0002] Aerosol is a common industry term used to refer to a number of products that can be dispensed as a mist, stream, spray, powder or even foam. Pressurized cans are the typical vehicle used to form aerosols for dispensing personal, household, industrial and pharmaceutical products, providing an inexpensive and easy-to-use method of dispensing such products. Typically, an aerosol dispenser includes a container that holds a liquid product for dispensing, such as soap, insecticide, paint, deodorant, sanitizer, or air freshener, among others. A pressurized propellant is used to provide sufficient force to expel the liquid product from the container. The user thus actuates the aerosol d...
