An electronic appliance (10) for controlling devices (22, 24, 26) via a controller (20) comprises a controller API and a secondary API. The application managing unit manages an application. The application is prepared with the use of an API, which operates the device to offer a service to a user, and is selected upon activation of the electronic appliance. The storing unit stores information about a correlation between the application and the API. The controller API is called by the application (18b), and issues a request to the controller such that the controller operates the device.; The secondary API (19) is called by the application on the basis of any correlation information between the application and the used API, which consequently starts up the application with the use of the interface not implemented in the controller API when version information of the API is newer than version information of the controller API.
