Abstract

An electronic device connected with external equipment through a transmission line to transmit data and receive power comprises a data processing unit for transmitting data with the external equipment through the transmission line; a charging circuit for charging a battery by using power received through the transmission line; and a charging selection unit for generating a charge instruction according to user input, wherein the charging circuit starts to charge the battery by using the received power based on the charge instruction. In the electronic device and the charging method thereof, the charge operation of the battery is started by the user's operation, thereby achieving charge in the case of insufficient voltage, obviating frequent charging operation during each data transmission, and ensuring the service life of the battery. The invention also provides the electronic device charging method.
