Embodiment Construction

[0040] see figure 1 , a gas turbine assembly constructed in accordance with an exemplary embodiment of the present invention is indicated generally at 10 . Gas turbine 10 includes a compressor assembly 12 , a combustor assembly 14 , a turbine assembly 16 in fluid communication with combustor assembly 14 and compressor assembly 12 , and a rotor shaft 18 attached to compressor assembly 12 and turbine assembly 16 . In operation, air flows through compressor assembly 12 and is discharged into combustor assembly 14 which injects fuel into the airflow and ignites the fuel / air mixture to produce a high temperature combustion airflow. The combustion airflow is discharged toward turbine assembly 16 , which rotates turbine assembly 16 .

[0041] see figure 2 , illustrates an exemplary embodiment of the combustor assembly 14 including a generally circular shroud assembly 38 that provides at least partial support for the plurality of fuel nozzles 22 . The shroud assembly 38 is coupled...

Abstract

The invention relates to a thermally compliant combustion cap device and a system. A combustion cap plate (40) is disclosed. The combustion cap plate (40) includes: a plate having a planar surface (46) and configured to be affixed to an assembly connected to a turbine combustion chamber (28), the plate defining a central axis (48) perpendicular to the planar surface (46); a plurality of openings (44) through the plate; and a plurality of raised portions formed by the plate. The raised portions each extend away from the planar surface (46) in a direction of the central axis (48) and having a shape conforming to a thermal gradient incident on the plate during a combustion process.

Description

technical field [0001] The subject matter disclosed herein relates to gas turbines, and more particularly to combustion cap assemblies used in gas turbines. Background technique [0002] Combustion cap assemblies are used in gas turbines to deliver fuel and air from the fuel nozzles to the combustion chamber within the turbine. Combustion head assemblies typically include a cover plate through which fuel nozzles deliver fuel and air. [0003] Existing cover plates have low cycle life limits and high cycle life limits. The life limit takes the form of cracks in the cover plate. Some of the cracking experienced was due to low cycle fatigue due to the severe thermal gradients induced by the proximity to the flame in the combustion chamber. There is also some cracking caused by high cycle fatigue because the relatively low stiffness of the cover plate allows it to deflect due to combustion pressure pulsations. [0004] Some designs that attempt to extend the life limit inclu...
