Abstract

The invention relates to a method for cleaning the outer surface of a roll or roller (1) in strip-producing and strip-conditioning equipment, wherein deposits on the shell surface of the roll or roller are detected using a detection device (15), a cleaning tool (3), which can be placed against the outer surface of the roll or roller, is moved along said surface and the deposits are removed from the rotating roll or roller.
