Embodiment Construction

[0056] Embodiments of the invention relate to fiber Bragg grating (FBG) sensing systems for measuring fluid flow.

[0057] Figure 1-3 A FBG sensing system 10 according to one embodiment of the invention is described. The FBG grating system includes a support member 12 comprising a fixed end portion 14 and at least two optical fibers extending from the fixed end portion 14 into a fluid flow path. exist figure 1 In the illustrated embodiment, the FBG sensing system 10 includes three free arms 16, 18, 20 and three optical fibers 22 each fixed in a corresponding free arm 16, 18, 20 to form a cantilever beam 28, 30, 32 , 24, 26 ( image 3 ). Bragg grating 34 ( figure 2 ). In one embodiment, the Bragg grating 34 is arranged closer to the fixed end portion 14 than to the free end of each free arm 16 , 18 , 20 . The area closest to the fixed end portion is where the strain or stress due to the deflection of the cantilever beam is greatest. The FBG sensing system 10 further i...

Abstract

The present invention relates to a fiber Bragg grating sensor system (10, 48, 91), which includes: cantilevered support components (12, 47, 92) including a fixed end part (49) for fixing at least two free arms (16, 18, 20, 50, 51, 52, 93, 94, 95) that can be deflected by the fluid flow; at least two optical fibers (22, 24, 26, 53, 54) respectively fixed on the corresponding free arms of the support component, each optical fiber is engraved with Bragg grating; at least one light source (36) for transmitting the light to the optical fiber; and at least one detector module (38), for detecting the light filtrated by the Bragg grating of the optical fiber and monitoring the wavelength variation of light to be detected. The at least two free-arms extend from the front periphery of the fixed end, and extend forward to exceed the fixed end part.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates generally to sensing technology, and more particularly to fiber Bragg grating sensing systems. Background technique [0002] Various sensing devices are known for measuring fluid or gas flow parameters such as flow rate, pressure, temperature, mass flow, and the like. However, conventional sensing devices are relatively complex to implement for flow measurements through inaccessible channels, such as cooling or leakage flows through seals. [0003] It would be desirable to have an improved sensing device of relatively small size. Contents of the invention [0004] According to one embodiment disclosed herein, a fiber Bragg grating sensing system includes: a cantilevered support member including fixed end portions of at least two free arms that are deflectable by fluid flow; at least two optical fibers in the arm, each of which has a Bragg grating engraved thereon; at least one light source for transmitting light to the...
