Problems solved by technology

However, no single acid dye has been found to exhibit high deposition on cotton and impart a pure blue or purple shade to clothing
Many of these dyes are too green for optimal shading
In addition, many of the acid dyes that deposit on cotton also deposit on nylon, which results in over-shading of nylon after multiple washes

Embodiment 1

[0125] The shading benefits of acid dyes were tested by washing cotton fabric alone at room temperature in 1.8 g / L alkaline laundry detergent containing: 18% NaLAS, 73% salts (silicates, sodium tripolyphosphate, sulfates , carbonate), 3% secondary substances (including perborate, fluorescer and enzyme), the remainder of impurities and water. A liquor to fabric ratio of 100:1 was used and the wash lasted 30 minutes with and without the addition of 200 ppb of shading dye. All dyes were used as received. After washing, the garment is rinsed and then dried. The color of the garments was then evaluated using a reflectometer (UV excluded for all measurements), expressed as a delta E value relative to garments washed without dye. The color of the fabric uses the CIELAB color space a * (red-green axis) and b * (blue-yellow axis) value representation.

[0126] For cotton, the dyes tested and the results are given in the table below.

Embodiment 2

[0131] The experiment of Example 1 was repeated using nylon fabric. The result is shown below.

[0133] Acid Black 1 and Acid Violet 14 showed very low deposition on nylon. Acid Violet 128 and Acid Blue 116 showed strong deposition on nylon.

Abstract

The present invention concerns the use of specific mono-azo dyes in laundry- detergent composition.

Description

field of invention [0001] The present invention relates to the delivery of dyes to fabrics. Background of the invention [0002] Many garments turn yellow after multiple wear and wash cycles, reducing the garment's aesthetic value. To maintain the white appearance, shading dyes may be used. For main wash applications, acid blue or acid violet, direct or hydrolyzed reactive dye classes are preferred. Depending on the structure of the dye, various problems arise during use. [0003] Direct dyes build up over many washes, which can cause dark blue or purple colors to appear on clothing. In order for this overshading to be acceptable, lower levels of dye must be used to reduce this effect. [0004] The beauty of acid dyes is that they don't build up through multiple washes. However, no single acid dye was found to exhibit high deposition on cotton and impart a pure blue or purple shade to clothing. Many of these dyes are too green in color for optimal shading.
