Embodiment Construction

[0042] Embodiments of the present invention describe a flash memory device having at least one bank, where each bank has an independently configurable page size. Each bank includes at least two memory planes with corresponding page buffers, wherein any number and combination of memory planes can be selectively accessed simultaneously in response to configuration data. For static paging of banks, configuration data may be loaded into the memory device at power-up, or the configuration data may be received with commands to allow dynamic paging of banks. The command may be an operation command for instructing the flash memory device to perform an operation, or the command may be a dedicated command for configuring the page size of the selected bank.

[0043] Figures 4a to 4d is a schematic diagram illustrating one bank of a flash memory device, where the flash memory device may have any suitable number of banks. The example bodies shown in the embodiments described here can be...

Abstract

A flash memory device having at least one bank, where the each bank has an independently configurable page size. Each bank includes at least two memory planes having corresponding page buffers, where any number and combination of the memory planes are selectively accessed at the same time in response to configuration data and address data. The configuration data can be loaded into the memory device upon power up for a static page configuration of the bank, or the configuration data can be received with each command to allow for dynamic page configuration of the bank. By selectively adjusting a page size the memory bank, the block size is correspondingly adjusted.

Description

[0001] Cross References to Related Applications [0002] This application claims the benefit of priority to U.S. Provisional Patent Application No. 61 / 025920, filed February 4, 2008, and U.S. Provisional Patent Application No. 61 / 081910, filed July 18, 2008, both of which are incorporated by reference in their entirety Come in. Background technique [0003] Flash memory is a common type of non-volatile memory that is widely used as a storage device in consumer electronics and mass storage applications. Flash memory is commonly used in mass consumer products, such as digital audio / video players, cellular phones, and digital video cameras, to store application data and / or media data. Flash memory can also be used as a dedicated storage device, such as a portable flash drive that can be plugged into a universal serial port (USB) of a personal computer, and, for example, as a replacement for a magnetic hard disk drive (HDD). Flash memory is known to be non-volatile, meaning it ...
