[0023] Liquid carbon monoxide is introduced via line 1 into an evaporator V, which is constructed with a pressure vessel D. The pressure vessel D is filled with a water bath W on which nitrogen N is located. The water bath W is kept at a constant temperature of approximately 40° C. by means of low-pressure steam 2 , the amount of which is regulated by means of the regulator b. The water transfers the enthalpy required for evaporation to the carbon monoxide flowing in the heating coil H, so that the gaseous carbon monoxide leaves the evaporator V through the line 3 . If a leak occurs in the heating coil H, liquid carbon monoxide can get into the hot water W where it evaporates rapidly, cooling the water W and causing a pressure rise in the pressure vessel D.
