The device comprises two honeycomb bodies 2 , 3 arranged in a common sleeve 1 through which the exhaust gas (see arrows) can flow sequentially. The first honeycomb body 2 is arranged at a distance from the common casing 1 in the casing and can be heated electrically. The outer skin of the first honeycomb body 2 is formed by two shell-like current distribution structures 4 , 5 . The current distribution structures 4 , 5 are respectively connected to the current terminal 7 or the ground terminal 6 . The electrodes for the current lugs 7 or ground lugs 6 protrude outwards through openings 8 , 9 formed in the common bushing 1 . The electrodes pass through connections 10 , 11 welded to the common sleeve 1 .
