Embodiment Construction

[0020] figure 1 is a diagram of one embodiment of a spring-loaded electromagnetic lens assembly 10 including a focusable lens 12 . The lens assembly 10 may be a system such as a camera or video recorder ( figure 1 part not shown). An example of such a lens assembly is shown in US Patent No. 7,612,957, which is incorporated herein by reference.

[0021] In addition to the lens 12, the lens assembly 10 also includes a spring 14 for forcing the lens toward the reference position 16, and the lens assembly 10 also includes a coil 18 and at least one permanent magnet 20 ( figure 1 Two magnets are shown in ) that work together to force the lens away from this reference position. Since the skilled person can model the lens assembly 10 as a second-order spring-mass system, figure 1 A damper 22 is included to represent the level of damping inherent in the lens assembly - the damper is not an actual part of the lens assembly, but represents the combination of all sources of damping, ...

Abstract

The invention relates to a responser for improving an underdamped system. A circuit for driving the underdamped system comprises a first signal generator and a second signal generator. The first generator can be operated to generate a first driving signal. The second generator can be operated to receive the first driving signal and a second driving signal and generate a system driving signal with a first amplitude within the first duration time and a second amplitude after the first time from the first drive signal and the second drive signal; and the system driving signal can be operated to lead the underdamped system to basically operate in a damping manner. Any or both the first generator and the second generator can be programmed, so that technical personnel can adjust the response of any underdamped system by generating a proper drive signal instead of physically modifying the system. With the adoption of the embodiment, the technical personnel can realize quicker time setup without reducing the response time of the underdamped system.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to underdamped systems, and to circuits and methods for driving underdamped systems. Background technique [0002] The response of prior art underdamped systems is not suitable for certain applications. For example, a lens assembly with poor underdamped response is not suitable for use in compact digital camera applications because the assembly takes too long to move the lens between steady state focus positions. [0003] One technique for reducing overshoot / undershoot and settling time of a second order system is to increase the damping level of the system. But increasing this damping level increases the power required, and this increased power may not be suitable for some applications, such as battery powered systems. [0004] Another technique used to reduce the magnitude of overshoot / undershoot in a second-order system is to extend the time to change the drive voltage, but this also increases the settling time to an ...
