Problems solved by technology

[0010] Existing attempts to implement instability detection devices are based on sensors (e.g. accelerometers) and remote software-based processing units, which do not meet the safety and reliability requirements of the CENELEC standard EN 50126-50129 and therefore cannot be considered as safe
Although the risk of instability can be reduced by installing these devices, the risk of instability cannot be reduced to zero because undetected failures of monitoring devices may still exist during unstable operation

Embodiment Construction

[0052] refer to figure 1 , an instability monitoring device 10 dedicated to monitoring the instability of a bogie 12 includes a printed circuit board 14 mounted in a box 16 secured to a bogie frame 18 . The printed circuit board 14 is built around a programmable logic device (PLD) 20 that includes two identical lateral accelerometers 22A, 22B as primary inputs, and two solid state safety relays as primary outputs 24a, 24b. In addition to the necessary power supply circuit 26, the system is equipped with a temperature sensor 28, a clock circuit 30, a watchdog circuit 32, an input 34 for test commands and an output 36 for indicating instability.

[0053] Such as figure 2 As shown, the two lateral acceleration sensors 22A, 22B are preferably of the MEMS (Micro Electro Mechanical Systems) type. Accelerometers of this type are well known in the art (see, for example, the SCA 1000 from VTI Technologies). The accelerometers 22A, 22B comprise inertial bodies in the form of polysi...

Abstract

An instability monitoring device (10) for a rail vehicle, comprises: at least a first accelerometer (22) for delivering a first acceleration signal in response to vibration along a reference axis, at least a first solid-state safety relay (24), having two main terminals and being switchable between a closed state and an open state, and a programmable logic device (20) connected to the first accelerometer and to the first solid-state relay, the programmable logic device is a field programmable gate array (FPGA) or a complex programmable logic device (CPLD), provided with non-volatile logic blocks running simultaneously in parallel and implementing an instability monitoring algorithm to change the state of the first solid-state relay based on an instability condition of the first acceleration signal.

Description

technical field [0001] The invention relates to a system for monitoring the stability of a railway vehicle. More specifically, the present invention relates to safety systems for monitoring the stability of distributed components, and to distributed devices in such systems. Background technique [0002] Conventional bogies are provided with passive stabilizing devices such as anti-deflectors or friction plates, which counteract the tendency of the bogie to move along a sinusoidal path. These stabilizers are also used to increase the speed - the so-called "instability limit" - at which speed the rather smooth sinusoidal run deteriorates into bogie oscillations, causing poor ride comfort, between the wheels and the rails high forces and eventual risk of derailment. [0003] In order to reduce the risk of dangerous operation (caused, for example, by defective anti-deflectors), the TSI HS (Technical Specification for Interoperability - High Speed) issued by the European Commis...
