The invention provides a new method for carrying out cable maintenance on large-span cable-stayed bridges; and in the method, a hanging basket is changed and applied to the maintenance on steel cables for cable-stayed bridges for the first time. The device can freely move forwards and backwards in the horizontal direction and can freely move upwards and downwards in the vertical direction in a large-span cable-stayed bridge, and vehicles for the person carrying and maintenance of the device are completely not in contact with the steel cables of the cable-stayed bridge, thereby overcoming the defects that the maintenance cycle is long and the vehicles for maintenance cause damages on inhaul cables. By using the device, the maintenance operation efficiency can be greatly improved, thereby shortening the maintenance time and greatly lowering the maintenance cost of the large-span cable-stayed bridge.
