Abstract

A power supply device for light sources (L), such as halogen lamps, can be supplied from mains (M) via a phase-cut dimmer (28), selectively switchable between a conductive state and a non-conductive state, so as to permit or interrupt feeding of the device from mains. The device includes a power stage (10) to feed at least one light source (L), a drive stage (22, 24) for the power stage (10), and a supply stage (26) for the drive stage (22, 24). Sensor means (30, 34) are provided to detect when said dimmer (28) is non-conductive and when said dimmer (28) is conductive again. The drive stage (22, 24) is coupled to the sensor means (30, 34) to disable driving of power stage (20) when the sensor means (30, 34) indicate that dimmer (28) is non-conductive, and to enable driving of power stage (20) when the sensor means (30, 34) indicate that said dimmer (28) is conductive again.

Description

technical field [0001] The present disclosure relates to techniques for powering light sources such as, for example, low voltage halogen lamps. [0002] The present disclosure is designed with particular attention to its application to those power supply devices adapted to perform the function of adjusting the intensity of light sources (so-called "dimming"). Background technique [0003] For the supply of light sources such as halogen lamps, for example with a low supply voltage, electronic transformers are used which can perform an intensity adjustment function for the light source, a so-called "dimming" function. [0004] The implementation of this function exploits the fact that the light intensity of these light sources depends on the (average) intensity of the current flowing through the light sources. [0005] Intensity adjusting devices (referred to as "dimmers" for simplicity) operate by "cutting" a sinusoidal waveform that has generally undergone rectification via...
