A surgical instrument having a locking mechanism for preventing an output shaft of the surgical instrument from rotating and a further locking mechanism for mounting a battery pack to a distal end of a housing of the surgical instrument. The surgical instrument further includes a clutch mechanism for limiting the torque of a drive shaft of the surgical instrument. The locking mechanism for preventing the output shaft from rotating includes a locking switch which mates with a locking cap disposed on the output shaft. The locking mechanism for mounting the battery pack to the housing includes a groove at the distal end of the housing and a retaining ring which engages the groove when the battery pack is mounted on the housing. The clutch mechanism includes a clutch plate that interfaces with both the output shaft and the drive shaft and prevents failure of the motor shaft.

A suction bell assembly, and an elastomeric liner therefor, are disclosed in which the bell includes a rigid outer shell (10,310) of generally Y-shaped axial cross section with a conical top portion (101) and a cylindrical body portion (106). A thin, flexible, elastic liner (11) is disposed within the shell and has a conical and preferably corrugated upper portion (111) disposed within the conical top portion of the shell and a peripheral lip (114) for sealingly engaging a rim (19) extending about the shell's top portion. Means are also disclosed for allowing swivel action of the shell (310) in relation to a connector (32) for detachably connecting the suction bell to a milk-collecting bottle.

The invention discloses an avionics system suitable for a multi-purpose unmanned aircraft. A 1553B dual-redundancy bus framework is adopted in the avionics system. The avionics system consists of a main processor unit, a universal interface unit, a 1553B bus, a mass memory, an airborne monitoring terminal, a task load, an execution mechanism and a sensor assembly. The devices have the connection relationships that: the main processor unit, the universal interface unit, the mass memory, the airborne monitoring terminal and the task load are connected with the 1553B bus through a 1553B special electric connector, and the 1553B special electric connector serving as a bus module connects all the devices attached to the bus together; a steering engine controller is connected with the universalinterface unit through an RS422 interface; and the sensor assembly is connected to the universal interface unit through interfaces of serial RS422/RS232/RS485, an ARINC429 bus, a CAN, analogue AD/DA and discrete DIO and the like. The avionics system has the characteristics of strong multi-task expandability, multi-redundancy high reliability, rich data interfaces and strong calculation and processing capabilities, and can well meet the application requirement of 'one platform and multiple purposes' of the unmanned aircraft.

A device and method for gait training, such as for rehabilitation of a person after a stroke is provided. In some embodiments, the device comprises a stimulator, preferably electric stimulator, for provoking a spinal cord withdrawal reflex in the person by stimulation on the person's foot in response to a control signal. Hereby, the person's leg will move and initiate a gait swing. A sensor is placed to sense movement of the leg and provide a feedback signal accordingly. A processor unit with a processor runs a control algorithm which calculates the control signal in response to the feedback signal. Thus, the method is based on a closed-loop design, and the control signal is preferably calculated for each walking step, and it is preferably based on the feedback signal obtained from the preceding walking step. Hereby reflex habituation can be accounted for. Preferably, the stimulator has a plurality of stimulator channels with electrodes placed on different sites distributed on the sole of the foot and on the heel. The feedback signal may be based on accelerometer(s), and/or gyroscope(s), and/or goinometer(s) positioned on the leg and/or foot, e.g. partly or fully integrated in an in-sole for a shoe etc.

A liquid crystal display (“LCD”) module includes a backlight assembly emitting light, a LCD panel overlapping the backlight assembly, and an upper cover. The backlight includes a light source module emitting the light, a light guide plate (“LGP”) including edges and a middle portion, and a LGP support overlapping the edges of the LGP. The LGP support includes a plurality of LGP supporting pieces connected to each other so as to form a polygonal shape, each of the LGP supporting pieces including a LGP supporting portion including a LGP supporting surface overlapping the edges of the LGP, and the LGP supporting surfaces of each of the LGP supporting pieces of the LGP support are placed on a same plane. Opposing LGP supporting pieces are interconnected by an LCD module mounting member.

A direct bone conduction hearing aid system for generating direct bone conduction vibrations is disclosed. The direct bone conduction hearing aid system has a vibrator that is placed in an implanted vibrator unit and an implanted energy-receiving unit that has an energy-receiving inductive coil. A vibrator supply cable is connecting the implanted energy-receiving unit to the implanted vibrator unit. A mounting arm is connecting the implanted vibrator unit with an anchoring fixture that is anchored to the skull bone through the skull bone surface. The implanted vibrator unit is positioned in the mastoid cavity. The mounting arm is positioned laterally to the implanted vibrator unit and the bone fixation portion of the anchoring fixture.

A magnetic mount is provided for easily mounting, positioning, and orienting a camera, sensor or other directionally sensitive electronic device. In one example the magnetic mount is a camera mount. The camera mount has a camera part that has an image sensor, electronics, battery, and communication components. The housing for the camera part has a generally concave mounting surface, with a magnet positioned inside the camera housing and adjacent to the camera mounting surface. A base part has a base mounting surface that is constructed to be attracted to the magnet. In one example, the base mounting surface is dome-shaped, with a convex curvature constructed to mate with the concave curvature of the camera mounting surface. The base part is mounted to a stable support, and the camera mounting surface brought near the base counting surface. The magnetic attractive forces pull the camera part firmly to the base part, thereby securely positioning and orienting the camera. However, the camera may be readily repositioned by pushing the camera into a new position. The size and shape of the complementary mounting surfaces may be selected according to positioning requirements.

An electronic pen (10) has a force sensor (16) whose electrical resistance varies in accordance with the amount of force applied to the pen stem (14) of the pen. The force sensor (16) is a modular unit with an electrode and a closure, which are mutually arranged in an essentially electrically insulated initial position. The closure, which conveniently is cantilevered on the electrode, is adapted to receive axial forces from the pen stem (14) and thereby to be urged to an activated position in electrical contact with the electrode. The closure is also arranged, on relaxation of the axial forces, to automatically spring from the activated position back to the initial position.

A pulley system with a locking cam member may be employed to allow the umbrella to safely and easily open to any desired position. A controllable watch winder for a self-winding mechanical watch, in which a turntable is provided to hold and rotate the watch, including a programmable microprocessor circuit configured to count the number of rotations executed by the turntable. In one aspect, the watch winder is configured to introduce, after the electronic circuit is activated, a delay period before the turntable commences rotating. In another aspect, the circuit may be configured to interrupt the rotation of the turntable with pauses, to break up the rotation into cyclical sets. The circuit may be configured to automatically predetermine the number of rotations in each set. In yet another aspect, the watch winder may be configured to be manually adjustable, to variably predetermine before use, the number of rotations to be executed by the turntable and the length of any pause between rotations.

A semiconductor light emitting device package includes a substrate with a core and a copper layer overlying the core. The light emitting device is connected to the substrate directly or indirectly through a wiring substrate. The core of the substrate may be, for example, ceramic, Al₂O₃, AlN, alumina, silicon nitride, or a printed circuit board. The copper layer may be bonded to the core by a process such as direct bonding of copper or active metal brazing.

An RF interconnect is incorporated in RF module packages for direct attachment onto a multi-layer PWB using compressible center conductor (fuzz button) interconnects. The module has circuitry operating at microwave frequencies. The module package includes a metal housing including a metal bottom wall structure. The module includes a plurality of RF interconnects, which provide RF interconnection between the package and the PWB. Each interconnect includes a feedthrough center pin protruding through an opening formed in the metal bottom wall, with isolation provided by a dielectric feedthrough insulator. The center pin is surrounded with a ring of shield pins attached to the external surface of the bottom wall of the module housing. The pins are insertable in holes formed in the PWB, and make contact with fuzz button interconnects disposed in the holes. Circuitry connects the fuzz button interconnects to appropriate levels of the PWB for grounding and RF signal conduction.

An ultrasonic diagnostic system has a tablet type electronic device for ultrasonic diagnosis and a docking station for mounting thereto the electronic device removably. The docking station includes a receptacle section against which one side of the electronic device comes into abutment when mounting the electronic device, and a hold-down section for holding down the electronic device releasably on the side opposite to the one side when mounting the electronic device.

A communications device for use with a protective helmet having a headband is provided. Generally, the communications device provides support member for a bone conduction microphone that is easily added to and removed from the protective helmet, allowing the communications device to be readily used with both new and existing protective helmets. While in use, support member positions the bone conduction microphone between the headband and a user's head, preferably between the napestrap and the center of the back of the user's head. The communications device can be used with any type of protective helmet, such as a fireman's helmet, a military helmet, a hard-hat, etc.

An apparatus for detecting flashback occurrences in a premixed combustor system having at least one fuel nozzle includes at least one photodetector and at least one fiber optic element coupled between the at least one photodetector and a test region of the combustor system wherein a respective flame of the fuel nozzle is not present under normal operating conditions. A signal processor monitors a signal of the photodetector. The fiber optic element can include at least one optical fiber positioned within a protective tube. The fiber optic element can include two fiber optic elements coupled to the test region. The optical fiber and the protective tube can have lengths sufficient to situate the photodetector outside of an engine compartment. A plurality of fuel nozzles and a plurality of fiber optic elements can be used with the fiber optic elements being coupled to respective fuel nozzles and either to the photodetector or, wherein a plurality of photodetectors are used, to respective ones of the plurality of photodetectors. The signal processor can include a digital signal processor.

A refiner disc and segment for a rotary disc fiber refiner which has a plurality of radial fields each having an angular extent no greater than 30° and preferably no greater than 22° for reducing the amplitude and duration of load swings that take place during pumping and holdback cycles. Each field has a refining zone with a refiner groove and a refiner bar and a second zone disposed radially outwardly of the refining zone that changes the direction of flow of stock to reduce stock flow momentum and magnitude of the load swings. Each field can have a third zone radially outward of the second zone that further changes the direction of flow of stock and an infeed zone radially inwardly of the refining zone. If desired, a zone that includes a breaker bar can be disposed radially inwardly of the infeed zone. Where the disc is segmented, the segment has at least three fields. In one preferred embodiment, the segment has at least four fields which reduces the duration and magnitude of load swings by at least 40% thereby reducing refiner vibration and wear while advantageously increasing consistency of pulp quality and throughput. The disc and segment are capable of bi-directional operation without loss of efficiency, quality, and throughput.
