In dependence on the result of the raveling test, the corresponding asphalt amount when the raveling loss is 15% is taken as the minimum asphalt amount OACmin, andthe corresponding asphalt amount when the drain-down loss is 0.3% is taken as the maximum asphalt amount OACmax. Based on the above situation and in dependence on the performance test result and structural characteristics of the mixture, the best asphalt amount of the porous asphalt mixture is calculated according to the formula OAC=OACmin+0.75(OACmax-OACmin). When OACmax exceeds 6.0%, 6.0% is used; and when OACmin is less than 4.0%, 4.0% is used. If there exist no intersection interval of OACmin and OACmax according to the raveling and drain-down tests, it shows that the material compositiondesign of the mixture is not reasonable and the material composition needs designing again.
