Abstract

The invention provides a method and a system for realizing multicast in an Internet protocol version 4 over Internet protocol version 6 (IPv4overIPv6) tunnel. The method comprises the following steps that: a user side gateway encapsulates an Internet group management protocol (IGMP) multicast group addition request into an IPv6 tunnel for transmission, maps an IPv4 multicast group address into an IPv6 multicast group address, generates a multicast listener discovery (MLD) request message and transmits the MLD request message to a network side; the network side updates an IPv4 multicast tree forwarding table and an IPv6 multicast tree forwarding table; after receiving an IPv4 multicast data packet, the network side maps the IPv4 multicast group address into the IPv6 multicast group address, and downstream forwards an IPv6 multicast data packet obtained by the address mapping; a multicast replication point transmits the multicast-replicated IPv6 multicast data packet to a user side; and after receiving the IPv6 multicast data packet, the user side gateway decapsulates the IPv6 multicast data packet according to a multicast address mapping relationship, recovers the IPv4 multicast data packet and transmits the IPv4 multicast data packet to a user terminal.

Description

technical field [0001] The invention relates to the field of IPv6 network technology, in particular, to a method and system for realizing multicast in an IPv4overIPv6 tunnel. Background technique [0002] Currently, IPv4 addresses are becoming more and more scarce. According to the last three-year address usage data forecast by the Internet Assigned Number Authority (IANA), global IPv4 address resources will be exhausted around the end of 2011. Under such circumstances, it has become an inevitable trend of Internet development that IPv6 addresses gradually replace IPv4 addresses. However, the incompatibility between the IPv6 protocol and the IPv4 protocol also makes it impossible for IPv4 applications to migrate to the IPv6 network overnight. Because of this, it also leads to a variety of transition technologies in the IPv6 evolution stage. In addition to the relatively mature dual-stack In addition to technology, there are also tunneling technology and translation technolo...
