The individual is typically a patient undergoing hemodialysis or peritoneal dialysis as a result of renal failure, it being understood that the processes and devices disclosed herein may also be used to assess patients suffering from conditions other than renal failure (acute kidney disease) hydration status, eg, heart failure, liver failure, nutritional disorders, thrombophlebitis, and / or chronic kidney disease that has not resulted in the need for dialysis. In particular, knowledge of dry weight is valuable for heart failure patients treated with diuretics to reduce their fluid values. When on dialysis, knowledge of the patient's dry weight is of clinical importance in deciding how much diuretic to prescribe.
