Abstract

This motor drive system is provided with a control unit which controls switching elements and an inverter which supplies power to a three-phase motor. From a state in which supply of current to the three-phase motor is stopped, when starting supply of AC power to the three-phase motor, the control unit switches between first, third and second control. In the first control, all switching elements are set to a non-conducting state such that supply of current to the three-phase motor is stopped. In the second control, the conducting state and non-conducting state of the switching elements are repeated. In the third control, those upper arm switching elements that correspond to the phase in which current flows into the three-phase motor at the timing of starting supply of AC current to the three-phase motor are set to the conducting state, and those lower arm switching elements that correspond to the phase in which current flows out of the three-phase motor at the aforementioned timing are set to a conducting state.
