The active ingredients of the insecticidal composition consists of a first active ingredient cycolxylidin and a second active ingredient metaflumizone, wherein the weight ratio of the first active ingredient to the second active ingredient is from 1:15 to 10:1, preferably from 1:10 to 5:1. The composition of the invention may be formulated as agriculturally permissible suspending agents, wettable powders, water dispersible granules or suspension emulsions. The insecticidal composition of the invention has reasonable ingredients, good insecticidal effects, and the activity and insecticidal effects are not simply addition of that of each active ingredient; compared with preparations having a single active ingredient, the insecticidal composition of the invention has significant insecticidal effects and significant synergies, is safe on crops, meets the safety requirements for pesticide preparations, and has a significant control effect on rice planthoppers and rice leaf rollers.
