Abstract

An embodiment of the invention provides a method and a device for searching multistage flow tables, so that flexibility of flow table match field configuration is improved. The method comprises: extracting matching information of a data package when receiving the data package; selecting keywords from the matching information of the data package according to configuration information of the flow table matching field; with the keywords as search keywords, searching a matching field of each stage of flow table in the multistage flow tables from a first grade flow table in the multistage flow tables, and performing matching of the search keywords and the matching fields; if matching of the matching field of a current stage flow table is completed, corresponding instructions are executed, and if the current stage flow table is not the last stage of flow table or instructions of executing actions exist, corresponding actions are executed. In the method provided in the embodiment of the invention, the configuration information of the flow table matching fields can be configured by software. Therefore, fixed matching fields change into variable matching fields, thereby enhancing flexibility of the flow table matching fields, and reducing cost caused by modifying hardware logics when changing the matching fields.
