Embodiment Construction

[0063]As noted herein, aspects of the invention provide systems and apparatus suitable for monitoring displacement between turbine casing sections during machine maintenance procedures, particularly during casing separation procedures. These systems include a set of components adapted to be connected to the upper and lower casing portions of the turbine. These components are communicatively connected to each other via measuring means adapted to monitor (eg measure vertical movement of components and / or housing parts) the displacement / distance between the components during the housing separation process. Based on the displacement between the components, a technician can monitor / determine a set of displacement values for the joint between the upper and lower housings during separation. Having these systems around the turbine casing during the separation process provides a comprehensive, accurate and detailed record of casing displacement which can assist technicians during the...

Abstract

Systems and devices adapted to monitor displacements between turbine shell portions 92,94 during shell separation processes are disclosed. In one embodiment, a system includes: a first member 110 adapted to connect to a first portion 94 of a turbine shell; a second member 120 adapted to connect to a second portion 92 of the turbine shell; and a measurement device 130 communicatively connecting the first member 110 to the second member 120 for monitoring a displacement value for a joint in the turbine shell between the first portion 94 of the turbine shell and the second portion 92 of the turbine shell.

Description

technical field [0001] The subject matter disclosed herein relates to machines, and more particularly to systems for monitoring displacement between turbine housing sections during machine maintenance procedures. Background technique [0002] Some power plant systems, such as certain nuclear power, simple cycle and combined cycle power plant systems, employ turbines in their design and operation. These turbines include a set of casings that partially define the flow path of the turbine and enclose various components, including turbine buckets, rotors, and the like. During maintenance, portions of these casings must be separated (eg, lifting the upper casing off the lower casing) in order to allow technicians access to the turbine components. The large size of the turbine casing and the tight clearances between turbine components and casing portions may require that the lifting process be synchronized (eg, portions of the upper casing are lifted in unison relative to the low...
