Embodiment Construction

[0025] The illustrated embodiments are disclosed with reference to the drawings. It will be understood, however, that the disclosed embodiments are intended to be merely examples that may be embodied in different and alternative forms. The figures are not necessarily to scale and some features may be exaggerated or minimized to show details of particular components. Specific structural and functional details disclosed are not to be interpreted as limiting, but rather as a typical basis for teaching one skilled in the art how to implement the disclosed concepts.

[0026] refer to Figure 1-3 , shows an assembly 10 comprising a first component 12 (eg, a terminal component) and a second component 14 (eg, a tubular aluminum extrusion). The second part 14 defines an open end 16 into which the first part 12 is inserted.

[0027] The first seal 18 is fitted into a first receptacle 20 (or groove) formed in an outer surface 22 of the first component 12 . The first seal 18 and the f...

Abstract

Method of connecting process of the connecting member and the electromagnetic assembly made according to the process.A sealing member is fitted to the first member and the second member is fitted over the first member and the seal member.Lubricant is applied to the first member between the seal member to partially fill or occupy the region within the junction to prevent moisture from entering the connector and cause corrosion.Portion of the second member is deformed into a recess formed in a first member, to connect the first member and the second member.

Description

technical field [0001] The present disclosure relates to joining together components made of dissimilar metals using a pulsed electromagnetic welding process. Background technique [0002] Electromagnetic welding is known for joining components together. However, joining dissimilar metals such as steel and aluminum is generally avoided because of the risk of galvanic corrosion. Galvanic corrosion may occur if components formed from dissimilar metals come into contact with the electrolyte. [0003] One way to avoid galvanic corrosion is to electrically insulate the two metals from each other. No electrical coupling occurs unless the parts are in electrical contact. Preventing electrical contact can be done with a plastic insert or a protective plastic layer. For example, steel water pipes can be separated from copper-based fittings by insulating inserts. In another example, a coat of grease may be applied to separate aluminum and steel components. Pipes can be isolated ...
