The illumination device includes a light guide plate which extends in a plane having a first and a second direction intersecting with each other, a base for supporting the light guide plate, and a first and a second support section that are provided in a part of the light guide plate and the base. The first support section restricts the displacement of the light guide plate in a first direction while allowing the displacement of the light guide plate in a second direction. The second support section restricts the displacement of the light guide plate in the second direction while allowing the displacement of the light guide plate in the first direction.
