Embodiment Construction

[0015] Embodiments of the present invention include a global voltage feature that enables the recirculating bath to operate on alternating current (AC) voltage provided by the electrical grids of the United States, Japan, and Europe. The global voltage characteristic utilizes a direct current (DC) power source to convert an input voltage between 90-264 volts into a regulated DC voltage. The DC voltage is then used to operate the controller electronics, cooling unit and recirculation pump motor. The heating unit consumes line voltage to reduce the load on the DC power supply, and the heating unit is derated by the controller based on the detected input AC voltage level.

[0016] now refer to figure 1 , and according to an embodiment of the present invention, the exemplary recirculation bath 10 may include a base unit 12 and a head unit 14 . The base unit 12 includes a reservoir 16 that can be accessed through an opening 18 to add or remove samples from the working area of t...

Abstract

The present invention describes a recirculating bath that includes a mains power input configured to receive alternating current and a heating element selectively coupled to the mains power input. The heating element is selectively coupled to the main power input in response to an activation signal having a duty cycle. A duty cycle of the activation signal is determined based on a voltage of the alternating current, and the duty cycle decreases in response to an increase in the voltage of the alternating current. This reduces the rating of the heating element at higher AC voltages. A power unit coupled to the main power input provides voltage to portions of the recirculation bath, such as a DC motor coupled to a compressor and a recirculation pump, having a voltage independent of the AC voltage. The recirculating bath is thus configured to operate with a range of AC voltages.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates generally to recirculating baths and, more particularly, to recirculating baths configured to operate using voltages provided by electrical grids in different regions. Background technique [0002] Recirculating baths are used in laboratory environments to provide a temperature-controlled working fluid, such as water, in a reservoir. End users can take advantage of recirculation baths by placing their application in the reservoir or by circulating the working fluid between the reservoir and an external application. The use of traditional recirculating bath applications involves placing a beaker or other vessel in the work area of the bath reservoir and controlling the temperature of the external vessel. To control the temperature of the working fluid, recirculation baths pass the fluid through heating or cooling elements in order to achieve a uniform desired temperature. [0003] A conventional recirculation bath typic...
