Embodiment 1

[0049] Example 1 – Preparation of liquid electrophotographic (LEP) inks

[0050] Several LEP inks use alkaline BariumPetronate (LT); Ba[(C 13 h 27 )-O-C(O)CH 2 CH(SO 3 - )C(O)-O-(C 13 h 27 )] 2 and BaHPO 4( SCD); isopropylamine dodecylbenzenesulfonate (GT); light isoparaffin oil (ISOPAR® L, ExxonMobile); ethylene acrylic acid copolymer, ethylene methacrylic acid copolymer; and Cabotmonarch800 to prepare . The percentages of LT, SCD and GT for different inks are shown in Table 1.

Embodiment 2

[0056] Example 2 – Conductivity of LEP ink

[0057] During preparation, the conductivity of the LEP ink of Example 1 was tested after 3 hours and 18 hours of electrophorhetic mobility. The results are shown in Table 2.

[0058]

Embodiment 3

[0059] Example 3 – Evaluation of LEP Ink No.11

[0060] The LEP ink No. 11 of Example 1 was further evaluated for streak performance. The SCD / LT / GT ratio of LEP Ink No. 11 was slightly changed to provide two additional LEP inks (11a and 11b). In addition, a comparative LEP ink without the charge director system of the present invention was used as indicated by the SCD / LT / GT ratio. All inks were formulated according to the composition of LEP Ink No. 11 except for the ratio of SCD / LT / GT shown. Table 3 shows the obtained conductivity before and after printing.

Abstract

The invention discloses a composition for printing a liquid electrophotographic printing ink and a method. The composition comprises a liquid binding agent, ink particles and a charge director system, wherein the director system comprises (i) a primary charge component; (ii) a secondary charge component; and (iii) an electric stability additive. The ink conductivities are provided by the charge director system as follows: the high-field conductivity is about 100pS / cm to about 500pS / cm; the low-field conductivity is about 20pS / cm to about 200pS / cm; the direct-current charge conductivity is less than about 30pS / cm; and the particle conductivity is 100pS / cm at least. In addition, the liquid electrophotographic printing ink can be prepared for printing of a liquid electrophotographic printer.

Description

[0001] This application entered the Chinese stage on May 5, 2011. The national application number is "200880131859.9", the international application number is "PCT / US2008 / 082500", and the invention title is "Liquid electrophotographic ink with charge director system" Divisional application of PCT application. technical field [0002] Compositions and methods for printing with liquid electrophotographic inks are described. Background technique [0003] In many printing systems, it is common practice to develop a hard copy of the image by using a photoconductive surface. The photoconductive surface is selectively charged with a latent electrostatic image having image and background regions. For example, a liquid developer comprising charged toner particles in a carrier liquid can be brought into contact with the selectively charged photoconductive surface. The charged toner particles adhere to the image area of the latent image, while the background area remains clear. Th...
