The invention discloses a method for controlling a variable frequency air conditioner. The method comprises the steps that when a received air conditioner control command is a refrigeration energy-saving comfort command, and a current indoor temperature is not lower than a preset indoor environment temperature threshold value, the variable frequency air conditioner is controlled to operate according to an original variable frequency control mode; or else, a compressor target frequency calculated according to the original variable frequency control mode is acquired, and is judged to be smaller than a first preset compressor frequency or not; if yes, a compressor is controlled to operate with the first preset compressor frequency, and an outdoor fan is controlled to operate with preset rotation speed; and if not, the compressor and the outdoor fan are controlled to operate according to the original variable frequency control mode. In the original variable frequency control mode, whether to compensate the indoor temperature or not is decided according to the operation time of the compressor. By adopting the method disclosed by the invention, comfort of indoor temperature adjustment of the air conditioner and the low-power consumption energy-saving performance of the air conditioner are both considered; and the energy-saving performance and refrigeration comfort of the variable frequency air conditioner are improved.
