Abstract

The torque sensing device includes a rotating member configured to rotate about an axis of rotation and a first sensor positioned proximate to the rotating member to sense an instantaneous angular position of the rotating member at a first location. A second sensor is disposed radially inward of the rotating member adjacent the first sensor to sense an instantaneous angular position of the rotating member at a second position. A controller is operatively coupled to the first sensor and the second sensor. A controller determines a relative phase shift between a first signal generated by the first sensor and a second signal generated by the second sensor to calculate an output proportional to the torque applied to the rotating member.
