A measuring tool comprises a base plate, a positioning shaft, a first supporting stand, a lining, a positioning pin, a second supporting stand, a measuring shaft, a handle, etc. The method comprises the following steps: 1) moving a shift swing rod to be above the base plate, and enabling a shaft hole in a spindle sleeve of the shift swing rod to be in alignment with the positioning shaft and a ball head of the shift swing rod to face rightwards; 2) moving the shift swing rod downwards so that the positioning shaft passes through the shaft hole in the spindle sleeve and a pin hole in the spindle sleeve is in alignment with a positioning hole in the positioning shaft; 3) pushing the positioning pin from the back to the front so that the front end of the positioning pin penetrates the pin hole in the spindle sleeve and the positioning hole in the positioning shaft; and 4) finally controlling the measuring shaft to move leftwards, and identifying that the symmetry of the ball head of the shift swing rod accords with requirements if a detection opening formed between two measuring blocks just can clamp the ball head.
