A vehicle lamp including a projector headlight using an LED light source for a low beam can include a shade, an LED light source, an ellipsoidal reflector and a projector lens. Both a focus of the projector lens and a top edge of the shade can be located near a second focus of the reflector. The LED light source can be located near a first focus located below the second focus of the reflector. Therefore, light emitted from the LED light source can be effectively gathered near the focus of the projector lens via the reflector and can be projected via the projector lens with high light use-efficiency. An enhanced light fixture containing a volumetric diffuser to control the spatial luminance uniformity and angular spread of light from the light fixture is disclosed. The volumetric diffuser provides increased spatial luminance uniformity and efficient control over the illuminance such that power reductions, reduced cost or reduced size may be achieved. The volumetric diffuser contains one or more regions of volumetric light scattering particles. The spread of illumination of light from a light emitting source can be efficiently controlled by using a thin, low cost, volumetric, diffuser to direct the light in the desired direction. This allows the reduction in number of light sources, a reduction in power requirements, or a more tailored illumination. When the volumetric diffuser is used in combination with a waveguide to extract light, the light is efficiently coupled out of the waveguide in a thin, planar surface. This transmissive diffuser can be coupled to a reflecting element such that the resulting combination is a light reflecting element with a desired light scattering profile.

A compact solar concentrator photovoltaic module assembly includes a plurality of rear contact solar cells configured in a matrix array on a substrate. The substrate is comprised of conductors laminated to an insulator sheet to form a receiver sheet. A lens sheet on which many lenses have been formed is disposed in a fixed spaced relation to the substrate and operates to focus sunlight onto the active surfaces of the PV cells. The overall thickness of the concentrator module is less than four inches thick. The receiver sheet may be assembled using standard, surface mount printed circuit board assembly techniques. The receiver sheet may have a secondary optical element and may also serve as part of the encapsulant for environmental protection.

The cavity can have an inner circumferential surface that opens wider in an upward direction. Cups can be located in the cavity. Each cup has an outer wall that can be in the form of a cylinder with the bottom formed of each of two separate lead frames. A red LED chip and a green LED chip can be adhesively fixed to the lead frames located on the bottoms of the respective cups. The LED chips can have lower electrodes, which are electrically brought into conduction with the lead frames one by one. The LED chips can also have upper electrodes, which are electrically brought into conduction with the lead frames one by one via bonding wires. A light transmissive resin can be filled in the cavity.
