Abstract

The invention provides a gradient-based adaptive high-performance video coding rate control method for the HEVC video coding standard. The method mainly comprises frame layer rate control based on the buffer state and LCU layer adaptive gradient selection. In frame layer rate control, the target bit of the current frame is adjusted according to the accumulated buffer data volume of coded frames; and in LCU layer rate control, the complexity expressing mode of LCU is improved, the complexity of LCU of an I frame is expressed with the intra-frame gradient, and the complexity of LCU of a non-I frame is expressed with an smaller value adaptively selected from the intra-frame and inter-frame gradients. By adopting the method, the actual rate is more in line with the given target rate, the buffer data volume is decreased significantly, and the output bit levels off. Experimental results show that compared with the HEVC standard rate control proposal K0103, the buffer data volume is reduced by about 41.26% on average, the peak signal-to-noise ratio is increased by about 0.54dB on average, and the rate deviation between the actual rate and the target rate is reduced by about 0.41% on average.
