Abstract

Systems, methods and devices for communication between charging stations and electric vehicles are disclosed. In one aspect, a method of pairing a charging station with an electric vehicle is provided, comprising: providing wireless power via a magnetic field having a first level of strength sufficient to charge or power the electric vehicle; when the magnetic field is set at providing an information signal via said magnetic field at a second intensity level below said first intensity level, said information signal uniquely identifying said charging station from a plurality of charging stations; via a communication link different from said magnetic field communicating with the electric vehicle, communication comprising communicating parking guidance information with the electric vehicle to a location of the charging station; and establishing the communication link based at least in part on the information signal provided via the magnetic field.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates generally to wireless power transfer, and more particularly to devices, systems and methods relating to wireless power transfer to remote systems, such as vehicles containing batteries, and communication between the remote systems. Background technique [0002] Remote systems, such as vehicles, that incorporate electrically derived motion power received from an energy storage device, such as a battery, have been introduced. For example, hybrid electric vehicles include an on-board charger that charges the vehicle using power from the vehicle's brakes and a conventional motor. Purely electric vehicles generally receive electricity from other sources to charge the batteries. It is often proposed to charge battery electric vehicles (EVs) by some type of wired alternating current (AC), such as a household or commercial AC supply. A wired charging connection requires a cable or other similar connector that physically connects...
