[0092] Wear Test Method

[0093] The 3 inch (7.62 cm) diameter nonwoven abrasive disc to be tested was mounted on a powered rotary tool set on an X-Y table with dimensions of 6 inches by 14 inches by 1 inch (152.4 mm by 355.6 mm ×25.4mm) flat panel. The tool was then set to traverse at a rate of 14 inches / sec (355.6 mm / sec) along the length of the panel in the Y direction; and at a rate of 4.70 inches / sec (119.4 mm / sec) along the width of the panel. This process along the length of the plate is done 20 times in each cycle for a total of 8 cycles. The rotary tool was then activated to rotate at 11000 rpm without load. The abrasive article was then ...

Abstract

Disclosed is a nonwoven abrasive article comprising: a lofty open nonwoven web, an abrasive layer bonded to the lofty open nonwoven web, and a peripheral anti-loading composition disposed on the abrasive layer. The peripheral anti-loading composition comprises at least 50% by weight of a wax having an onset melting point of from 180°F (82°C) to 290°F (143°C). Also disclosed is a method of abrading a workpiece using the nonwoven abrasive article.

Description

technical field [0001] The present disclosure relates broadly to the field of nonwoven abrasive articles. Background technique [0002] Nonwoven abrasive articles generally include abrasive particles bonded to a nonwoven web by a binder composition. In one common type of nonwoven abrasive article, the nonwoven web comprises a lofty open (ie, not dense or tightly entangled) web of fibers produced by processes other than weaving or knitting. Examples of known techniques for forming nonwoven webs include card-laying and cross-laying, and air-spinning techniques using staple fibers. Typically, the fibers are bonded together mechanically (eg, by needlework) and / or by using a pre-bond resin applied prior to the abrasive particles of the bond composition, but this is less common. Nonwoven abrasive articles are used in a wide variety of polishing, grinding, and machining purposes. [0003] Nonwoven abrasive articles are used for abrading various substrates or workpieces made of, ...
