The method comprises the following steps: photography scheme pre-designing: generating an optical camera station site and a photography scheme; remotely automatic photographic data acquisition: orienting remote photography equipment, calibrating the remote photography equipment, acquiring an appearance image of the containment through the remote photography equipment, transmitting the image to the main control end in real time through a wireless network, and enabling the main control end to transmit a working instruction to the photography equipment through the wireless network; and image data processing: acquiring a panorama expanded view and defect information of the appearance of the containment. A plurality of sites for remote photography are set around a large range of the nuclear power plant containment to automatically acquire a high-resolution containment appearance image to finish data acquisition so as to cover the containment appearance panorama at 360 degrees, and an appearance defect can be checked and measured.
