Abstract

The occlusion device includes a cover member configured to regulate passage of blood or thrombus through the cover member and an occlusion frame including a plurality of elongate occlusion frame members. These elongated occlusive frame members are arranged to form a generally disc-shaped member. The blocking frame is at least partially covered by a covering member. The device further includes an anchoring frame comprising a plurality of elongated anchoring frame members. The device further includes a first hub member and a second hub member, the elongated frame member extending from the first hub member and the elongated frame portion extending from the second hub member.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to an implantable medical device that can be used to occlude a hole, conduit or structure in a patient. Background technique [0002] Cardiac structures such as the appendages cause disturbances in blood flow to the heart, which is associated with a variety of heart-related conditions. For example, complications associated with atrial fibrillation due to disturbed blood flow within the left atrial appendage (LAA) can lead to thrombotic stroke. The left atrial appendage is a muscular pouch extending from the anterior side wall of the atrium of the heart and serves as a container for the left atrium. During normal heart circulation, the LAA makes contact with the left atrium to pump blood out of the LAA, which normally prevents blood from stagnating within the LAA. However, during cardiac cycles characterized by cardiac arrhythmias (eg, atrial fibrillation), the LAA often fails to contract sufficiently, which results in bl...
