An anti-obesity strain of lactic acid bacteria and uses in food and pharmaceutical compositions are disclosed. Isolated lactic acid bacteria strains which are CP-9 (Bifidobacterium longum) and/or bv-77 (Bifidobacterium breve) are provided. The present invention provides the novel strains of lactic acid bacteria and novel compositions having fat reducing/weight reducing capabilities containing the present strains. The compositions may be used in the form of food or pharmaceutical compositions.
