Abstract

A device for cooling components of an underwater electrical system is presented. The device includes a tank filled with a dielectric fluid. The tank includes a first part and a second part. The device includes at least one first electrical component located within the first portion. The device includes at least one second electrical component located within the second portion. The apparatus comprises a first heat exchanger located outside and in fluid contact with the tank and arranged in thermal contact with seawater during operation. The apparatus includes a pump arranged to force a flow of said dielectric fluid through the first heat exchanger. The flow of the dielectric fluid in the tank is partly by natural convection and partly by forced convection produced by the pump. At least one first electrical component generates more heat than at least one second electrical component. In the first part, the share of flow by natural convection is greater than in the second part.
