Embodiment Construction

[0016] Referring now to the drawings, wherein like reference numerals refer to like elements, there is shown a system and method of detecting misfire of cylinders of an engine. Any numerical values recited herein are by way of illustration only. In other aspects, other values can be used and the values can be varied in any manner suitable for the application.

[0017] An exemplary aspect of the invention provides a method of detecting misfire of a cylinder of an engine, the method comprising determining the peak pressure in a pre-chamber or main chamber of the engine and the standard deviation of the actual peak pressure to initiate detection of the presence of Problems such as cylinder misfire. If such a problem exists, use the engine cylinder cutout check to determine which cylinder is failing. This cutoff check can be implemented by (1) cutting off one cylinder (e.g., preventing the cylinder from producing power) while maintaining constant engine power, and comparin...

Abstract

The disclosure describes systems and methods of detecting a misfire in a cylinder of an engine. Such systems and methods may include determining a standard deviation for a crank angle location in a chamber of the engine, determining a standard deviation of the peak pressure in a chamber of the engine. If the standard deviation for a crank angle location is greater than a threshold value for the standard deviation for a crank angle, or if the standard deviation for the peak pressure is greater than a threshold value for the standard deviation of the peak pressure, an engine cylinder cut out check may be performed to identify one or more misfiring cylinders.

Description

technical field [0001] This invention relates generally to gas engines and, more particularly, to prechamber fuel inlet valve diagnostics. Background technique [0002] In natural gas engines, a prechamber is usually associated with each cylinder. An electronically controlled fuel inlet valve is used to supply fuel to the pre-chamber to facilitate ignition of the mixture in the pre-chamber. When the solenoid in the pre-chamber fuel inlet valve is energized, the pressure builds up against the action of the spring force and the pre-chamber fuel inlet valve is opened. When the solenoid is de-energized, the combined force of the spring and the force exerted by the mixture in the pre-chamber exceeds the force exerted on the side away from the pre-chamber and the pre-chamber fuel inlet valve is closed. Because of the high temperature and vibrations to which the pre-chamber fuel inlet valve is subjected, the pre-chamber fuel inlet valve can degrade and lose some functionality aft...
