The ternary high-nickel positive electrode material is LiNi<1-x-y>CoxAlyO2 (1-x-y is greater than 0.5, x is smaller than 1 and greater than 0 and y is smaller than 1 and greater than 0). The method comprises the steps of mixing and dissolving a lithium source, a nickel source, a cobalt source and an aluminum source into deionized water, adding glutamic acid and sodium fluoride to obtain a mixed solution; preparing dry gel from the mixed solution; carrying out heating and heat preservation, and carrying out complete self-propagating combustion on the dry gel to generate fluffy powder; and carrying out heat treatment on the powder to prepare lithium nickel cobalt aluminate positive electrode material.
