Embodiment Construction

[0049] first reference figure 1 , schematically shows the general layout of the assembly for transferring fluid according to the present invention. figure 1 It is merely used to clarify the positional relationship between the constituent parts of the assembly and is not used to give specific details regarding constructional details or dimensions.

[0050] The assembly for transferring fluid basically includes a first vessel 1 , a second vessel 2 and a third vessel 3 . The first vessel 1 comprises, for example, an FPSO, which can be moored to the seabed by means of known assemblies of turrets 4 by means of mooring lines 6 in a windward manner. A production line or riser 7 (eg for oil or gas) enters the vessel 1 via buoys 5 and turret 4 and is connected (in a well known manner and not specifically shown here) to pipelines or other equipment on the first vessel 1 .

[0051] It should be noted that other mooring concepts can also be used for the first vessel 1, such as multi-po...

Abstract

A method for transferring fluids between a first vessel (1) and a second vessel (2), comprises a step of establishing a direct mooring connection between the first (1) and second (2) vessels using a mooring line (8), a step of positioning and maintaining a third vessel (3) closer to the second vessel (2) than to the first vessel (1), a step of providing a first fluid transfer hose (9) and connecting it with a first end (10) to a fluid outlet (11) on the first vessel (1) and with a second end (12) to an intermediate fluid inlet (13) at the third vessel (3), a step of providing a second fluid transfer hose (14) and connecting it with a first end (15) to an intermediate fluid outlet (16) at the third vessel (3) and with a second end (16) to a fluid inlet (17) on the second vessel (2) and a step of establishing a fluid communication between the intermediate fluid inlet (13) and intermediate fluid outlet (16).

Description

technical field [0001] The invention relates in a first aspect to a method for transferring fluid between a first vessel and a second vessel. Background technique [0002] The main field of application of such methods is the offshore production of oil and gas. The first vessel may eg comprise a so-called FPSO (Floating Production Storage Offloading vessel), from which oil or natural gas (such as LNG) has to be transferred to a tanker. Known methods use floating fluid transfer hoses connecting a first vessel to a second vessel. A disadvantage of such an approach is that its use is limited to environments with moderate sea states (significant wave heights of up to 2-3 metres). For higher sea conditions, the forces generated by floating fluid transfer hoses reach levels that exceed the design values of the tanker's hose handling system. Such tankers are usually equipped with amidships manifolds to which the fluid transfer hoses must be connected and such manifolds cannot c...
