Embodiment Construction

[0020] In normal Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) operations, GNSS operators may ensure the integrity or reliability of their systems and assume that the position, velocity or time determined by a user equipment device (UE) from a given GNSS is reliable. However, historical indications of constellation and / or space vehicle (SV) failures may not necessarily assume the absolute reliability of GNSS, and one or more "checks" outside of the GNSS own control segment may be beneficial. Furthermore, even if the operator of a particular GNSS is aware of some failure in one or more SVs and may be providing broadcast data to indicate this to some users, other users of the GNSS (e.g., another service provider's location server) Failures arising at least in part from delays or lack of connectivity from a reference source such as a Wide Area Reference Network (WARN) may be temporarily unrecognized.

[0021] It may be assumed that the GNSS operator operates the GNSS system to transm...

Abstract

Disclosed are systems, methods and techniques for determining or inferring a status or fault for a portion or aspect of a global navigation satellite system (GNSS). For example, fault messages may bereceived from multiple mobile devices where fault messages provide indicators indicative of events or conditions. Fault indicators in received fault messages obtained from messages received from two or more of the mobile devices may be combined to infer a status or fault of at least a portion of a GNSS. Augmentation parameters conveying information related to an inferred fault may be transferred to a mobile device to improve GNSS location of the mobile device.

Description

[0001] Related applications [0002] This PCT application asserts the U.S. non-governmental patent application filed on September 4, 2015 entitled "Methods and Systems For Collaborative Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) Diagnostics" Benefit and priority of Provisional Patent Application No. 14 / 845,936, which is incorporated herein by reference in its entirety. technical field [0003] Aspects of the invention relate generally to Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) and methods to improve its reliability through collaborative techniques among GNSS operators, reference augmentation networks, and receiver elements including consumer smartphones and other handheld devices . Background technique [0004] Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) are widely used to provide the ability for ground or air-based GNSS receivers to derive their position, velocity and timing (commonly referred to as "PVT"). This is also commonly referred to as Position, Navigation and T...
