Embodiment Construction

[0012] Wherever possible, the same reference numbers will be used throughout the drawings to refer to the same or like parts. figure 1 An exemplary internal combustion (IC) engine 100 is shown according to one embodiment of the present disclosure. The IC engine 100 is hereinafter referred to interchangeably as the engine 100 . Engine 100 may include a multi-cylinder IC engine. Engine 100 may be powered by any one or combination of known liquid or gaseous fuels, including but not limited to gasoline, diesel, natural gas, petroleum gas, biofuels, and the like.

[0013] Engine 100 includes cylinder head 102 and cylinder block 106 . The cylinder head 102 is positioned on a cylinder block 106 . The cylinder block 106 may include a plurality of cylinders 108 . One such cylinder 108 is shown in the drawings. The cylinder 108 defines a combustion chamber 110 . Combustion chamber 110 slidably houses piston 112 . Piston 112 is movable in translation within cylinder 108 . Piston ...

Abstract

A valve for use in an internal combustion engine (100) is provided. The valve includes a valve head. The valve head (138) includes a combustion face (140) configured to face a combustion chamber (110)of the internal combustion engine (100). The combustion face (140) includes an angular side portion (152). The combustion face (140) also includes a central recess portion (144) defining an inner diameter (Di) and an outer diameter (Do). The inner diameter (Di) and the outer diameter (Do) together define a depth (DR) of the central recess portion (144). The valve also includes a neck portion (166) configured to connect the valve head (138) with a valve stem (168) of the valve.

Description

technical field [0001] The present disclosure relates to a valve, and more particularly to a gas exchange valve for use in an internal combustion engine. Background technique [0002] Each cylinder of an internal combustion engine includes gas exchange valves, such as intake valves and exhaust valves. The gas exchange valve is selectively opened and closed to control the air flow into and out of the cylinder. During engine operation, the gas exchange valves are under load at high pressure and temperature. In addition, due to the load, the purge valves are subject to wear, which can sometimes lead to valve failure. Also, due to tensile stress, the underhead portion of the gas exchange valve often experiences typical string failure, which is undesirable. [0003] U.S. Patent No. 8,869,511 describes a large two-stroke diesel engine having at least one combustion chamber, a reciprocating piston, and a method for reducing NOx emissions from a large two-stroke diesel engine wit...
