Embodiment Construction

[0054] Systems and methods related to collecting species from an airflow are generally provided. The systems and methods described herein may allow collection of species such as fluids (eg, water) with relatively high collection efficiencies. Such systems and methods may be used in a variety of applications including, for example, fog collection. In some embodiments, the systems and methods described above enhance water collection from air mist to produce usable water. Conventional fog collection systems can be limited by twisting of the hydrodynamic streamlines upstream of the collector, preventing some of the species present in the airflow from reaching the collector, reducing the collection rate and / or collection efficiency of the collection system. Advantageously, the methods described herein may in some cases incorporate ions into the gas flow such that species present in the gas flow follow electric field lines and / or are attracted to a grounded (or charged) collector. ...

Abstract

Systems and methods related to the collection of a species from a gas stream are generally provided. The systems and methods described herein may allow for collection of a species such as a fluid (e.g., water) with relatively high collection efficiency. Such systems and methods may be useful in various applications including, for example, fog collection. In some embodiments, the systems and methods enhance water collection from airborne fog to produce usable water. Advantageously, the methods described herein may, in some cases, incorporate ions into the gas stream such that the species present in the gas stream follows electric field lines and / or are attracted to a grounded (or charged) collector. Advantageously, the systems and methods described herein may suppress the adverse effects ofnatural conditions such as the velocity and direction of the wind.

Description

[0001] related application [0002] This application claims priority under 35 U.S.C. §119(e) to U.S. Provisional Patent Application Serial No. 62 / 233,499, filed September 28, 2015, entitled "Enhanced FogCollection with Corona Discharge," for all purposes by It is incorporated herein by reference in its entirety. technical field [0003] The present invention generally relates to systems and methods for collecting species, such as liquids, from a gas stream under the influence of an electric field. Background technique [0004] Although access to clean water is considered a human right, more than 1.1 billion people worldwide still lack access to safe drinking water, according to the World Water Council, and this number is expected to increase as water resources become increasingly polluted and due to global Warming and scarce. Water scarcity can cause serious economic and social problems in regions where water scarcity occurs. A promising solution for providing clean water...
