Embodiment Construction

[0014] Quantitative ultrasound (QUS) is used to screen, diagnose, monitor and / or predict health conditions. The complexity of human tissue can be measured using multiple QUS parameters to achieve accurate characterization of that tissue. For example, liver fat fraction is estimated using a multi-parameter approach that combines quantitative parameters extracted from received signals for different wave phenomena, such as scattering and attenuation of longitudinal waves, propagation and attenuation of shear waves, and Propagation and attenuation of coaxial waves from Acoustic Radiation Force Pulses (ARFI).

[0015] In one embodiment, tissue properties (eg, liver fat fraction) are estimated by transmitting and receiving pulse sequences to estimate scattering parameters and by transmitting and receiving pulse sequences to obtain shear wave parameters. Estimating may also include transmitting and receiving pulse sequences to estimate parameters from the axial displacement caused b...

Abstract

The present invention relates to tissue property estimation using ultrasound medical imaging. For tissue property estimation using ultrasound, a number of different types of measurements are performed by ultrasound systems, including scatterometry and shear wave propagation measurements. A combination of these different types of measurements is used to estimate tissue properties, such as liver fat fraction.

Description

[0001] Related applications [0002] This patent document claims the benefit of the filing date of US Provisional Patent Application Serial No. 62 / 482,606, filed April 6, 2017, under 35 U.S.C. §119(e), which is hereby incorporated by reference. Background technique [0003] This embodiment relates to ultrasound imaging. Tissue properties, such as liver fat fraction, are measured using ultrasound. [0004] Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is the most common liver disease in adults and children in the United States. NAFLD is characterized by excess liver fat accumulation and liver fibrosis. Fat fraction can be measured as an indicator of NAFLD. Fat fraction and / or other tissue properties (eg, degree of fibrosis) in liver or other tissues (such as breast tissue) provide diagnostically useful information. [0005] Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) accurately measures proton density fat fraction (PDFF) as a biomarker of liver fat content. However, MRI is not widely avai...
