[0220] Example 1 - Effect of Stability and Particle Size of Fragrance Microcapsules in Film
[0221] Polyvinyl alcohol films were made with perfume-loaded microcapsules of various sizes in order to determine the threshold microcapsule size in the film for good olfactory performance and mechanical properties.
[0222] A polyvinyl alcohol film was prepared using a polyvinyl alcohol film preparation made of a 4mol% carboxylate-modified polyvinyl alcohol resin having a degree of hydrolysis of 99.5% and a viscosity of 17-23 cP (at 20 °C relative to its 4% by weight aqueous solution), and the polyvinyl alcohol film also includes fillers, surfactants, plasticizers and processing aids. Each film contained 12 wt% fragrance microcapsules, and the films had the same thickness. The basement membrane formulation was the same in each sample, while the size of the fragrance microcapsules varied.

example 2
[0234] Influence of example 2-perfume microcapsule loading on olfactory performance
[0235] According to Table 2 below, films of different sizes and containing fragrance microcapsules were formed as surrogates for different fragrance loadings. The base film had a microcapsule loading of 12 wt%. For films representing 9wt%, 6wt% and 3wt% loadings, different amounts of film (uniform thickness, different surface area) were used in order to replace the fragrance microcapsule dosage in the finished package. Thus, the smaller the surface area of the membrane used, the lower the fragrance microcapsule dosage, thus representing a lower practical loading of the membrane. Olfactory performance of films and comparative capsule slurries were tested at a slurry dosage of 0.5 and 0.25% per 35 g of unperfumed base.
