Abstract

The present invention discloses an electronic device having a plurality of housing parts that are interlocked together by a molding material. To provide interlocking surfaces for the molding material, the housing components may include various geometries designed to receive and retain the molding material such that the housing components are secured to each other. For example, the first housing component may undergo several material removal operations to form a plurality of ribs, each rib having a through hole. As the molding material extends along the rib and into the through hole, the molding material solidifies and interlocks with the first housing component. The second housing part may include several stepped indentations that receive molding material. Additionally, the third housing member may include dovetail indentations to receive molding material such that the first and second housing members interlock with the third housing member. The indents provide retention in three dimensions to resist disengagement.
