Abstract

A circuit breaker for interrupting an electrical current flow between a first node and a second node is provided. The circuit breaker includes a first switching branch comprising a first winding of amutual inductor and a mechanical switch connected in series. The circuit breaker further includes a second switching branch including a second winding of the mutual inductor and a switching arrangement including at least one switching device connected to the second winding. The first switching branch and the second switching branch are connected in parallel between the first node and the second node and the second switching branch is configured to operate bidirectionally.
